STATUS: Hiring for Ucluelet Deckhand/Naturalist - Full-time and part-time seasonal positions (March – October)
Jamie’s Whaling Station Ltd has been in operation for over 35 years. We have locations in both Tofino & Ucluelet and are proud to offer whale, bear, hot springs cove, kayaking, cultural canoe, and water taxi tours/services. Our fleet includes a mix of vessels including the adventurous Zodiac-style (RHIBs) as well as Covered Cruisers. Our main focus is safety & security of the passengers, crew and vessel. The master is in command of the ship and must thoroughly and concisely relay pertinent information to the crew on board. Deckhands will be in constant communication with the master keeping watch and discussing passenger management. Basic maintenance and an understanding of the safety equipment on board is also key to this role.
As a Deckhand you are responsible for the safety and comfort of passengers at all times.
Ensuring all supplies and materials are assembled before your tour departs, this includes but is not limited to toiletries, galley, emergency equipment checked, assist with refuelling and basic maintenance. Keeping a keen watch of any hazards and a constant alertness of your surroundings as well as answering and accommodate guests in a professional friendly manner. Adhere to our dress code/uniform.
Ensure that all marine, environmental, and wildlife viewing guidelines are being met and or exceeded.
As a Naturalist you are responsible for providing educational information to passengers about our beautiful area and the incredible wildlife and humans we share it with.
